Women Out of Rhythm Series…
Hyper independence is often praised as strength, yet very few people stop to ask what created it.
When I listen to women talk about their lives, I rarely hear a woman say she dreams of carrying everything by herself. Most women desire meaningful relationships, emotional support, partnership, community, and a life that feels nourishing rather than exhausting. Yet many find themselves responsible for nearly everything, moving through their days as though the weight of their lives rests entirely on their own shoulders.
The culture calls this empowerment. I am not convinced that it is.
There is a difference between capability and hyper independence. A capable woman knows she can handlewhat life places in front of her. A hyper independent woman often feels she must handle everythingbecause there is no other option. One is rooted in confidence. The other is often rooted in mistrust.
Many women did not become hyper independent because they desired freedom. They became hyper independent because life taught them that depending on people could lead to disappointment, that asking for help could lead to rejection, or that softness could leave them vulnerable. Over time, self-reliance becomes more than a skill. It becomes an identity.
Once that happens, life can begin to feel like a series of responsibilities to manage rather than an experience to participate in.
The nervous system remains alert. Rest becomes difficult. Receiving support feels uncomfortable. Even when help is available, many women continue carrying everything because carrying has become familiar.
This is where the conversation around femininity becomes important.
Femininity is often misunderstood as weakness, passivity, or dependence. That has never been my experience of it. Femininity feels much more like trust. It is the ability to remain open to life rather than constantly bracing against it. It is trusting your discernment, trusting your ability to respond to what arises, and trusting that every outcome does not have to be controlled in advance.
A woman can be intelligent, successful, discerning, and highly capable while still allowing herself to receive support. She can lead a business, make important decisions, and create a meaningful life without carrying the emotional burden of the entire world alone.
What many women are longing for is not less capability. They are longing for more connection.
They desire relationships where responsibility is shared. They desire communities where they feel supported. They desire intimacy, partnership, and a life that includes room to breathe.
The deeper question may not be whether women are too independent. The deeper question may be why so many women feel they have to be.
That question shifts the conversation entirely because it moves us away from celebrating survival and toward examining what allows a woman to feel supported enough to soften.
Hyper independence may look like freedom from the outside. From the inside, it often feels like carrying a life alone.
Freedom feels different.
Freedom feels like knowing you are capable while also knowing you do not have to carry everything by yourself.
The woman craving her soft girl era without losing her depth.
The woman ready for more ease, beauty, intimacy, sensuality, and emotional presence in her everyday life.
That is part of why I created The Sensual Reset™.
